Teacher Example
Dystopian Unit
This lesson is inspired by the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry
After reading the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, the students will create their own version of a dystopian community using either Canva or a physical poster board. The students will provide three to five characteristics of a dystopian society, including a name, laws, and norms.

The Giver is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect, controlled community with no pain or choices. When he turns twelve, he’s chosen to be the next Receiver of Memory and learns the truth about emotions, color, and the past from an old man called The Giver. Jonas realizes his world is missing important things like love and freedom. He decides to escape to bring change and hope to his community. The Giver explores important themes like the importance of memory, the value of individual choice, and the meaning of emotions. It shows how a world without pain also loses joy, love, and true freedom. The book makes readers think about what it means to be truly human and whether safety is worth giving up personal freedom.

All My Rage
Proposal Grant Project
This project is to ask a school district for the funding and supplies for one of my favorites to read and teach. Within this grant, I have attached an approximate cost to buy this novel to put in my classroom for my students to read from. I have asked the school district for 30 books to put on my shelves. All My Rage is a great book to read and teach to students the importance of relationships and those around you.
